JESUS WOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOU
Yes, that's right. Jesus would be ashamed of you and how you run your life.
Why? Because you're so obsessed with the long list of things that offend you, that you don't have any time left to be a rational human being that cares about anything else, anything that counts-- like the well being of others.
Let's look at some people that Jesus would be ashamed of:
Seriously. I'm sure you think you're doing the right thing. I'm sure you think you're working in His name. But you're not; all this tawdry demonstration of loyalty doesn't do you any favor.
Does the bible need to be literally true in every word in order to be a testament to the life and death of a remarkable man who changed the world? No! It doesn't.
So why do you hang your hat on that? Of all the really important things that need fixing on Earth, why do you fixate on whether gays can marry, or waste your time saving a woman who really was, it turned out, completely brain-dead? Why do you spend so much time arguing about how God created the universe, when the exact details don't matter? You can pray in school any time you want-- why force it on others? The justice system generally holds the same values as the ten commandments... why do you need it actually spelled out?
Do you think your rabid devotion to insignificant minutia really makes Jesus happy? I think he's probably more interested in you spending that kind of time and energy on helping your fellow man, don't you?
Do you really think God suffers from the same frailties as human beings, and would condemn vast numbers of people to Hell over such tiny details? I think he's much bigger and greater than you give Him credit for. I think He's infinitely more loving than the vengeful monster you hope he is.
It's time to take back Christianity from such insanity. It's time to get back to being the loving children of God that we all have within us. Put down the pickets. Cancel the vigils. Put away the fiery rhetoric of hellfire and brimstone. Relax. Be a nice, caring person for a change. Calm down. God doesn't measure you against other people. He has love enough for everyone. You don't need to point angry fingers at people you think are unworthy hoping God notices!
God gave us the bible. No-- he gave us the bibles (plural). There's so many versions, and they've changed and morphed over the years. Verses-- entire books-- have changed, been added, been deleted. But it doesn't matter; the exact details don't matter. The central message is still there-- God loves you. He loves me. He loves us all. Does it need to be more complicated than that? No! Does the bible need to be taken literally? No! If you took the bible literally, you wouldn't eat shrimp and you wouldn't wear cotton/polyester blends. But that's the point: we don't take the bible literally. We understand its central message lies unchanged over the millenia: God loves you.
Some religious leaders stir hatred because it's good for the bottom line-- it spurs donations. But you're better than that. They're better than that too, even if they don't realize it. People are ready to get back to basics, ready to get back to what really matters.
Only by returning to peace and sanity can we truly be close to God. Please... It's time to stop the noise and the hate. It's time to heal.
